It’s been a never since I’ve seen one.

I question the logic of anyone putting a body kit on a Lotus Elise, regardless it appears to be a flawless execution.

That’s the original Tesla Roadster (pre-Musk), I’m not sure if you were serious.

That’s a Tesla

Which was based on the Lotus Elise.

That’s not a body kit, it’s an entirely different body.

It was a joke.

Oh.
Be funnier next time.

I may have seen maybe two in my lifetime, and the last one was several years ago. They were never common, and I suppose Tesla owners like to move on to the latest and greatest, much like we do with smart phones.

Yes, I see that your comment was option #2 on my mental list. You were referencing the Tesla as a cop out for using the Elise shell (a valid criticism).
Part of me wishes that they’d have continued to save money and engineering time by utilizing established shells, imagine a Tesla drive train grafted into things like: a classic VW Beetle, a Delorean (where we’re going we don’t need [gas stations]), a Toyota Tacoma (speedboat version optional), an FD RX-7, a Mercedes S class, or any British car ever.
Hell, just using boring cars, or partnering with an established manufacturer, they could have come out with an affordable, mass market vehicle years ago.

A bit like Miles/Coda, you mean?

For the historical part, but really they could have licensed or partnered with a bigger manufacturer and got to market faster and cheaper.
A model S is squarely meant to compete with an S Class, imagine if Tesla just supplied Mercedes with the electric bits and we had S Class EVs with the fit and finish of a Mercedes and the Tesla technology (bonus points if the partnership made things cheaper).
The electric parts of a Tesla are great, it’s the normal car stuff that they struggle with (details are hard).

Welp... As crazy as it seems, far more realistic and easy to get an Exige than a Tesla Roadster. There’s three Roadsters in a 500 mi radius o_O $60, 75, 80k... Just crazy.
En route to picking up one of these Teslas, I could get TWO Elises and a handful of Miatas for the same price and a lot less travel. And definitely just as much fun (definitely more) and comparable exclusivity.
P.s. Ughhh why are Elises so affordable now?? Did I really need to buy a house and get a brand new HVAC system???

I saw a handful when I lived in Seattle. My favorite gas station moment was when I was filling up my Elise and a guy asked me if it was a Tesla.
